I have been blessed to learn from high character coaches who taught the game the right way. Whether it was at the high school level (Alabama high school Hall of Fame coach Woodie Head at Faith Academy), the junior college level (former Tennessee Vol great Sid Elliott at Enterprise State Junior College (AL)), NAIA level (NAIA Hall of Fame Coach Dr. Bill Elder at the University of Mobile (AL)), NCAA Division III level (New England Hall of Fame coach Harry Sheehy at Williams College (MA), and four-time conference championship coach Steve Lamie at Grove City College (PA)), or the NCAA Division I level (current Boston College head women’s basketball coach Erik Johnson during his first two years as head coach at the University of Denver), I have gained great insight about this game.

Not many people are given the chance to be a head coach at the college level, but I had that chance for five seasons. I also coached girls at the high school level for three years. Along the way, I have coached numerous All-American, All-State, All-Region, and All-Conference athletes. Many of these young people went on to become coaches and teachers…what a blessing it was to have a small part in this!
